ICONIC SEA VIEW HOTEL SHOWS SOME BOTTLE WITH ECO CREDENTIALS
One of Brighton’s most historic hotels has revamped its popular outdoor hospitality space with the introduction of environmentally friendly furniture and a vegan boom light bites menu.
Just in time for summer al fresco dining, The Old Ship Hotel has welcomed innovative concept tables and chairs made using recycled milk bottles, where guests and passers-by can sit and enjoy panoramic sea views and a bite to eat.
One of the first businesses in the UK to have furniture addressing ‘mood waste’ created by eco experts Pacific Ocean, over 100,000 recycled milk bottles rescued from oceans and landfill sites were used in the making of the tables, chairs and special love seats.
Standing seafront at the heart of King’s Road, the terrace can host up to 180 guests, serving up food and drinks for tourists and locals alike.
Snacks, light bites and larger plates come from the hotel’s Steak on Sea Restaurant, which has recently launched its terrace summer menu following the arrival of new head chef Phil Mesquitto.
Taking inspiration from British European cuisine, stand out new additions include maple pork belly bites (£6.50) and mini fish and chips (£6.50), as well as a selection of burgers and ‘Deli Doorstep’ sandwiches served with fries.
Also new to the menu is a range of vegetarian plates and healthier options to compliment the warmer weather. These feature sweet potato hash with avocado (£5.50) and ‘Super Food Salads’ such as roasted squash, quinoa, spinach, charred tender stem and pomegranate (£14.90).
Paul Wright, General Manager at The Old Ship Hotel, said: “As part of our preparations for summer and our busiest time of the year, which sees thousands of people flock to our city’s famous seafront and pier, we were keen to refresh our popular outdoor terrace and looked outside of the box to do this in a way which would help to reuse waste and look after the environment.
“Each one of our new chairs alone is made up from 579 recycled milk bottles, and as well as helping to boost our green credentials looks stylish and in-keeping with the stunning seafront.
“With summer just around the corner we are excited to entertain guests out on our terrace as well as those looking to refuel after a day of exploring. Our new head chef Phil is very talented and has worked hard to create a delicious menu, with dishes ideal to tuck into whilst sitting out in the sun.”
The Old Ship Hotel is a 154 bedroom property owned and operated by leading hospitality group comprising one of ten properties within The Cairn Collection. As well as a great location for midweek and weekend breaks and outdoor dining on the terrace, the hotel also offers wedding packages, conferencing and event facilities, and a dynamic restaurant.
